Buying books: take it slow
Jul 13th, 2010 by Johnnie
I have received several emails about the volume of books we require this year and the large amount of cash involved in the purchasing!
Several ways to cut the sticker shock on buying books for this year:
- Buy the books needed for the first quarter ONLY; buy second quarter in September
- Find a family that will study group with you and divide up the reference books
- Take advantage of payment plan from Homeschool Heaven
- Buy used and consignment editions
- Check the online versions of the classic books…several are online and FREE
- Buy a Kindle or Nook and download the novels to this device: the device is an expense (but a nice one!) but the books will be much less
Remember: these books are chosen from HUNDREDS of possibilities. You will love every one and see it as a GREAT investment.

Staying in PACES is a good way to save money on books!
Many of our books remain on the booklist for at least two years of the four year cycle. Also, as your children begin to repeat the cycle they are often able to reuse the books as reference material for their research.
I took full advantage of HomeSchool Heaven’s offer! Their web site is beautifully done and very user friendly. They are super helpful and one stop shopping, for the first time EVER, was awesome! The payment plan was pretty great, as well.
These books are great so I consider them my yearly reading as well that realization helps me absorb the bottom line amount.
